Trip Himalaya Treks and Expedition

Everest Base Camp Trektochten

Everest Base Camp Trekking is one of the best destinations in the world. Solukhumbu is justifiably famous, not only for the world's highest mountain, but for its Sherpa villages and monasteries. The main goal of an Everest trek is Base Camp at an elevation of about 5340m. But you cannot see Everest from the Base Camp, though you will enjoy the view of the beautiful, and dangerous, Khumbu icefall, so trekkers must climb Kala Pattar a 5545m hump on the southern flank of Pumori (7145m) from where there is dramatic view of Everest, the Western Cwm and Lhotse Face.

This is One of the classic treks in Nepal, Everest base camp is most commonly visited as a two week trek starting and finishing at Lukla, the airport just to the south of Everest National park. During the trekking seasons there are numerous daily flights into and out of Lukla, weather permitting. The flight from Kathmandu, which takes around forty-five minutes, passes over the fertile middle hills, with their scattered villages and terraced fields, with an amazing panorama of the high Himalaya as a backdrop. Before long the mountains close in and you are sweeping down to land at the gateway to Everest-Lukla.

Dag 03 : Fly Kathmandu to Lukla (about 35 minutes) and trek to Phakding (2612m) 4 hrs. Overnight in Lodge. This is easy way walk passing through pleasant Sherpa villages and with views of Kongde and Kusumkhangaru two of Nepal's technical trekking peaks.

Dag 04 : Phakding to Namche Bazaar (3446m) 6 hrs. Overnight in Lodge. Today you will cross the Dudh Koshi River several times after entering the Sagamatha National Park at Jorsale, where we will probably have lunch as there is no tea house between there and Namche Bazaar. Beyond Jorsale we cross a high bridge then climb steeply up to Namche Bazaar, a climb of about two hours. On this climb you need to go very slowly and to drink a lot. But you must also admire the view of the peaks of Thaserku, Kusumkhangaru, Khongde among others.

Dag 05 : Acclimatization rest day in Namche Bazaar. We will make an excursion around Everest View Hotel, from where there is a spectacular view of Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, Kangtenga, Thamaserku, Khunde and many more peaks.

Dag 06 : Namche Bazaar to Tengboche Monastery (3870m) 6 hrs. Overnight in Lodge. On most treks we see Himalayan Thar, Danphe (the National Bird of Nepal) and Musk Deer along the trail. Lunch will be at Phunki Thanka, a small place, but at the lowest altitude of the day's trek. At Phunki Thanka there are several water-driven prayer wheels. After lunch we tackle the steep path through forest, reaching the famous Tengboche monastery after about 2 hours.

Dag 07: Tengboche to Pheriche (4240m). About 6 hours. From Tengboche we walk through rhododendron forests, then descend a muddy trail to Debuche to cross the Imja Khola river. On the trail we pass several mani walls, then a couple of chortens on the way to Pangboche. The Pangboche Gompa is the oldest in the Khumbu area. When the trail to Pheriche crosses a small hill you can see not only the village, but Island Peak, one of Nepal's most famous trekking peaks.

Dag 08 : Pheriche. Rest day for acclimatization. The best way to acclimatize is to go high and sleep low, so we will climb towards Mhera Peak, at 5200m, from where there is a spectacular view of Nupse, Iland peak, Makalu, Ama Dablam, Thamaserku, Khangtenga, Tawache Peak, Cholatse and Lobuche Peak.

Dag 09 : Pheriche to Lobuche (4900m). About 5 hours. The trail rises steeply to Thukla, then crosses the Thukla pass, where there are many memorials to climbers who have died on Everest. Then the trail drops gently and follows the western side of the Khumbu valley to reach Lobuche.

Dag 10 : Lobuche to Kala Pattar (5545m). The trail from Lobuche follows the Khumbu valley through meadows beside the Khumbu Glacier, then becomes more rocky as you approach Gorak Shep. We will eat lunch here before climbing to the small black hill of Kala Pattar which provides the best view of Everest, Nuptse and Lhotse. If the weather is good we will do the climb late in the day to watch the sun set on Everest. We overnight at Gorak Shep (5150m).

Dag 14 : Tengboche to Namche Bazaar (3446m). About 5 hrs. We reverse our outward route, descending to Phunki Thanga, than ascending the ridge towards Namche Bazaar.

Dag 15 : Namche Bazaar to Lukla (2800m). About 7 hrs. It is a long walk from Namche to Lukla, but by now you will be very acclimatized, and we have all day.
